Move Your Money!

What: For those of us angry at the Big Banks, now’s the time to pull our money from them. A national movement called Bank Transfer Day suggests that we do so on or before November 5th – next Saturday. If you have accounts with any of these banks (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, PNC, Citizens, TD Bank or Sovereign), members of Occupy Philly & Transition Philadelphia would like to assist You, the 99%, to Move Your Money out of these Big Banks on Tuesday Nov 1st.

If you can’t come into Center City on Tuesday, you can still go to Move Your Money’s website to Find a Bank or Credit Union convenient to you, open new accounts, and close accounts with the Big Banks. And please, send us your stories! Let our combined actions speak for all of us!

How: Anyone who wants to close their bank account is welcome to join us as we walk to nearby branches of the above banks and Close Our Accounts. Welcome also are Friends who can explain the Move Your Money project and Bank Transfer Day to passersby and the media. Several local credit unions and banks are expected to be present, for informational purposes.

Why: The Transition movement is all about relocalizing our Economy. What better way than to Bring our Money Home, available for re-investment right here, in Our Communities, to Serve Our Needs?

Join us 4pm Tuesday, Nov 1 for Stories of our Future. Bill Mettler will lead the group for story-sharing and visioning at Occupy Philadelphia. We will be at Transition Philadelphia’s table (AKA the Environment table) outside Occupy Philadelphia’s white Outreach tent. When we get cold, we plan on walking the 2 blocks to the Friends Center, where we can warm up and continue with the story sharing and getting to know each other. This will be a great opportunity for members of Transition Philadelphia to meet with our new friends from Cheltenham.
