INSPIRATION:
The Talmud suggests it is not incumbent upon us to complete God’s work, nor are we free to desist from it.
Native American wisdom teaches us to think along timelines of seven generations.
All our small actions today have an impact on the life of children’s children.
ENLIGHTENMENT STARTS WITH COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS (CFLS)
CFLs last about 12 times longer than ordinary bulbs and consume about 20% of the energy of ordinary filament light bulbs. Now they come in all shapes and sizes.
This year make a New Year’s Resolution to install CFLs in all the rooms of your home wherever possible.
You could dedicate each month to another room for conversion.
CFLs are available at many locations, including hardware stores, IKEA, Bed & Bath (they often have coupons), Lowe’s, Home Depot, the Earth Store on South St., etc. Some of them also recycle used ones.
And PECO has given them away for free in the past, or offers them at a 20% discount now.
If you have already completed your home, move on to your congregation (or any other group you belong to).
If your spiritual community is already on board, move on to your workplace.
Talk to your colleagues and bosses to get their support. Incentive: Using CFLs will not only reduce the carbon footprint, but also your electricity bill.
Give CFLs as gifts to friends and family on special occasions.
Looking forward to hearing about your ideas and experiences.
